How to write a mystery shopping report that gets paid in full

Most reduced fees come down to the same thing: answers a reviewer cannot verify. Here is what specific looks like, with before and after.

A report is paid in full when a reviewer can tie every claim to something verifiable. It is reduced when the answers are true but vague. The gap between the two is usually one sentence of detail per answer.

Vague versus specific

  • Weak: “The service was slow.” Strong: “Eleven minutes from sitting to anyone approaching, on a half-full room at 19:40.”
  • Weak: “The staff were friendly.” Strong: “The server introduced herself as Dewi, asked whether we had eaten here before, and recommended the snapper unprompted.”
  • Weak: “The restroom was dirty.” Strong: “No hand towels at 20:40, bin full, floor wet by the basin. Photographed.”

Write it on the day

Write while you still remember the room. Reports written the next morning lose exactly the details that make them worth paying for — the words someone used, the time on the clock when you noticed something.

The narrative is the part they read first

Scores tell an owner where to look. The narrative tells them what to do. Write it as if you are explaining the evening to someone who was not there and has to decide what to change on Monday.

See it on your own business

One visit, no contract. The report is verified before it reaches you.
